All About Taylor Swift’s Zodiac Sign, According to an Astrologist

  • Born on December 13, 1989, Taylor Swift’s big three are Sagittarius sun, Cancer moon, and either a Capricorn or a Scorpio rising. She’s a buoyant, driven, glass-half-full go-getter with a mushy, romantic, family-oriented core—something that’s always been apparent from her songwriting.
  • Swift’s slew of planets in Capricorn, plus her Mars in Scorpio, likely fuel her industriousness. Her glitzy, go-big-or-go-home Sagittarius sun also speaks to the fact that she was born to be a showgirl.
  • When it comes to Swift’s bond with fiancé Travis Kelce, the pair share a bevy of astrological compatibilities that are hard to beat, like sync-ups between Swift’s sun (which represents her self-image) and Kelce’s moon (which colors his emotions).

Whether you dream of reliving the Eras tour, are a devoted fangirl of the Taylor and Travis romance storyline, or simply agree that she puts narcotics into all of her songs, it’s fairly impossible not to be fascinated by Taylor Swift. The iconic entertainer has captivated us all with her treasure trove of earworms, sense of style, and highly-publicized love life.

Fans are often parsing her lyrics for references to her famous friends and high-profile relationships. But what’s often referenced yet less discussed is Swift’s references to her birth chart. From fantasies about mismatched star signs to the symbolism of the archer, it’s clear Swift knows a thing or two about her birth chart.

A Sagittarius sun with a Cancer moon, Swift's big three (her rising sign is debated) point to her emotional intelligence and penchant for entertaining. Swift's zodiac sign also hints at what makes her such a good match for fiancé Travis Kelce, and may even offer clues as to where her career is headed.

Taylor Swift’s Big Three

If you’ve ever taken a look at your birth chart beyond your sun sign (the sign that’s also referred to as your zodiac sign), you might have pinpointed your moon and rising sign. Altogether, those three round out your “big three,” which offer a summary understanding of one’s key astrological characteristics.

While Swift’s sun and moon signs are confirmed, her rising sign is dependent on her birth time, which is debated. Here’s everything we know.

Sun Sign: Sagittarius

Born on December 13, 1989, Taylor Swift’s sun, which speaks to her self-image, identity, confidence and purpose, is definitively in mutable fire sign Sagittarius, known for being adventure-seeking, entertaining, unfiltered and buoyant.

Swifties will note that the singer-songwriter has referenced being a Sag more than once in her lyrics, like in “State of Grace,” when she nodded to the fact that she and her love interest were both Sagittarians (“twin fire signs”) and when she calls herself “the archer” in the song of the same title.

Moon Sign: Cancer

There’s pretty much no question that Swift’s moon sign is Cancer, the cardinal water sign that the moon dwelled in for the majority of her birthday. Your moon, which serves as the compass of the birth chart, speaks to how you experience emotion and intuition as well as how you nurture and want to be nurtured. With her moon in the maternal, family-oriented, security-seeking, emotionally intelligent water sign, it’s no wonder Swift has had the ability to pen so many emotionally astute, super-romantic, heartfelt songs for the majority of her life, including Cancerian tributes to her beloved mom Andrea.

Rising Sign: Scorpio or Capricorn

Now to the most controversial part of Swift’s chart: her rising or ascendant. Your rising is the sign that was ascending on the eastern horizon at the time of your birth, and it speaks to the image you project out into the world. It offers insight into your skills, talents, and strategies you might harness to make your way through life.

But you can’t really pinpoint an accurate rising sign without a definitive birth time, and there are two reported birth times for Swift: 5:17 a.m. ET and 8:36 a.m. ET. The former puts her rising sign at Scorpio, the intimacy-loving and yes, revenge-adoring (sound familiar?) water sign. The latter makes for a Capricorn rising, which could speak to her projecting business savvy, industriousness and pragmatism.

I tend to think the Scorpio rising makes more sense, as that speaks to her magnetism, charm, and ability to be brilliantly calculating. But there are plenty of astrologers who are in the Capricorn rising camp. And she does have a slew of placements (that’s other planets) in Capricorn as well as her Mars and Pluto in Scorpio.

What Taylor Swift’s Zodiac Sign Says About Her Career

With her sun in gregarious fire sign Sagittarius, Swift is undeniably a born entertainer. Sag is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, and they’re known for preferring to go big or go home, which works in their favor when they’re spinning (in their highest heels) and shining for the masses. (It’s no wonder Swift’s in good company with plenty of other dazzling performers born with their sun in the sign of the Archer, like Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, and Tina Turner.)

She also likely leans on her goal-oriented Capricorn stellium (that’s the term for three or more planets in one sign) for her incredible work ethic. Swift has her Mercury, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune in the grounded, driven, sensible earth sign, potentially clustered in her Second House of Income. This could very well be the reason that being such a mastermind has made her a billionaire.

What Her Birth Chart Says About Her Relationships

The Sag sun is also likely one of the factors that has kept Swift from believing in scoring cinematic-level love despite many heartbreaks over the years. After all, the fire sign is known for its glass-half-full optimism.

It’s also interesting that her Venus, the planet of relationships, is in Aquarius, the fixed air sign known for being future-minded, group-oriented, and quirky. This explains why she’s been attracted to air sign guys like Aquarians Taylor Lautner, Harry Styles, and Tom Hiddleston plus Libra ex John Mayer, and of course, current fiance Travis Kelce is also a Libra. And people with Venus in Aquarius often abhor adhering to convention in relationships — a trait Swift has displayed and spoken to in her lyrics over the years. (Cue “Lavender Haze.”)

And Swift’s Mars, the planet of sex, action, and energy, is in mysterious, spiritual, and sexual Scorpio (surely supporting her The Life of a Showgirl era). As another fixed sign, meaning that its energy tends to be resolute—and even obstinate at times, this part of Swift’s chart illustrates her preference for monogamy and forever-style commitment, as well as difficulty letting go when a relationship ends.

When it comes to Swift’s platonic bonds, her moon in Cancer offers valuable intel on who she feels most secure and connected to emotionally. Consider the close bond she shares with Cancer sun bestie Selena Gomez. Having the same moon sign as another person’s sun sign is one of the top markers of compatibility.

Taylor Swift’s and Travis Kelce's Astrological Compatibility

You don’t even have to be a Swiftie to be head-over-heels for the latest turn in the icon’s love story. It’s impossible for just about anyone not to adore how much she and her recently minted fiancé, Kansas Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce, seem are smitten with one another. And the planets agree.

Kelce was born on October 5, 1989 with both his sun and Mars in Libra. His moon is in Sagittarius, Venus is in Scorpio, and his Jupiter—the planet of luck and abundance—is in Cancer. They have a lot in common astrologically.

They’re equally driven.

Because they were born so close together, they share a bunch of those Capricorn placements, speaking to being equally pragmatic and goal-oriented. They clearly respect and appreciate one another’s work ethic. As Kelce put it in a 2025 interview with GQ, “She may not think of herself as an athlete. She will never tell anyone that she is an athlete. But I’ve seen what she goes through. I’ve seen the amount of work that she puts on her body, and it’s mind-blowing.”

They boast two of the best planetary sync-ups possible.

Remember how Swift and Gomez share a harmonious, lovely Cancerian connection between their sun and moon? Swift has the same connection with Kelce, except it’s her sun that is mirrored by his moon in Sagittarius, which says that her identity, confidence and purpose is in perfect sync and mirrored by his emotional self.

At the same time, they share a super-steamy connection that shows how much pure, chemistry-laden attraction is fueling their bond: His Venus is conjunct (meaning paired up with) her Mars in intimacy-loving, deeply committed Scorpio.

Their relationship brings them both more adventure and joy.

As if all of that romantic, heartfelt synastry (another word for astrological compatibility) wasn’t enough, Kelce’s Jupiter and Swift’s moon are also conjunct, which says the couple’s feelings for one another are amplified and make one another feel more happy, optimistic, adventurous, and lucky. Because Jupiter has such an expansive effect, there is a tendency with this aspect for the couple to go a little overboard at times. But as long as they lean on the more practical sides of their personalities, they could very well be golden.
